If you feel
energetic, climb Edinburgh Castle just off the loop
road, for magnificent views. The road brings you out
onto the Clarence Way, just south of Urbenville. The
drive back to Urbenville passes through the Yabbra Forest,
where State Forests has provided a picnic area and short
walking track into the Rainforest. Allow around 2hrs
plus breaks for the round trip.
Beaury Forest Loop Road / Tooloom
Falls / Urbenville
An
interesting short rural drive, passing through dry hardwood
and moist hardwood State Forests and cleared agricultural
land. Whilst the agricultural activities are mainly
focussed on beef cattle, some times of the year, you
may see large cultivated paddocks of corn. Recently
some eucalypt timber plantations have also been established
in the valley. Travel west from Woodenbong along the
Mount Lindsay Highway towards Tenterfield. Turn left
onto Beaury Creek Rd (gravel), and travel along the
valley.
You will pass the turn off to Levuka
Rainforest Recreation 4wd Park on the left. Proceed
until the end of the road, and turn left onto the bitumen.
Proceed to Tooloom Falls, the first turn on the right.
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service
maintain a picnic and camping area at the spectacular
Falls, which are 8 metres high and drop into a broad
deep pool. Tooloom is corrupted from the Gidabal word
Dooloomi, which means headlice! Tooloom Falls is one
of the most significant sites in Gidabal country and
was declared an aboriginal place in 1977 under the National
Parks and Wildlife Act. Respect the site, admire the
view, take some photographs; but stay well back from
the edge and off slippery rocks.
Allow around 1hr plus breaks for the round trip.
