| The
heritage village of Mallanganee is situated 40 kms west
of Casino on the Bruxner Highway, between Casino and Tenterfield.
Mallanganee is an aboriginal name meaning a "Place,
of Tall Pines". With a population of less than 200,
Mallanganee is the first village "West Of The Range",
on the western side of the Richmond Range, at an elevation
of 400m seems to be a fitting eastern entrance to the
Clean and Green Upper Clarence.
Let's
go for a stroll
Call into the General Store / Post
Office and have a browse at the local branding board,
the old mail boxes and old telephone. Stroll up the
street, have a hair cut, and then experience a famous
hand made tasty Mallanganee pie at the Bakery. You can
also call into Mallanganee Tavern and quench your thirst
or have a counter lunch while browsing the old photographs.
You might like to sit in Everson Park and enjoy the
peace and quiet. See the plaque set in sandstone with
the names of the early pioneers of the Mallanganee District.
The Memorial Hall, originally built in 1912, was renovated
in 1938. Enquire at the Post Office to see the fantastic
appliqué stage backdrop of a Bullock team hauling
timber. Browse through the R.S.L. Soldiers Room while
you are there.
Call into the Catholic Church and marvel at the sculptures
made by Father John Casey.
