Just a stone’s throw from Brisbane and South East Queensland, and the popular coastal experience of Byron Bay. Just a relaxing trip down from Armidale and the New England Tablelands, or from Toowoomba and the Darling Downs into the world of subtropical rainforests and coastal rivers.

From Brisbane and The Gold Coast

Head inland to Beaudesert, and proceed south to Rathdowney where there are excellent facilities for a short break. Proceed onwards via Palen Creek and wind around the slopes of Mount Lindsay, a reminder of past volcanic activity. Cross the State border into the Clean and Green Upper Clarence. The first village you will encounter is Woodenbong - the rest of the region awaits.

From the North Coast and Byron Bay

Head west to Lismore and Casino. Continue through Casino, heading south towards Grafton. After crossing the Richmond River, turn right at the roundabout, and follow the Bruxner Highway towards Tenterfield. Climb the Richmond Range and admire the Dry Subtropical Rainforest of the World Heritage Mallanganee National Park. Pause at the Mallanganee lookout on the left at the top of the range. Toilet and picnic facilities are available. There are magnificent views back towards the coast, and North to Mt Warning. Keep an eye out for the Brown Falcons that often fly the air currents along the range. Look westward over the Clean and Green Upper Clarence, which awaits.

By Bus: Kirklands has daily return bus services departing from Lismore and travelling through the Upper Clarence, stopping at Mallanganee, Tabulam, and Drake, on the way to Tenterfield.
