Terry and Lorna
Pascoe
Urbenville achievers
For
25 years Terry and Lorna Pascoe have provided a destination
to enthusiasts within the 4WD, Motorbike and Dirt Bike
industry.
Originally a “place to go” for a few friends
with motorbikes Terry and Lorna saw a need for a safe
destination for these people, with facilities for a
family camping weekend, as well as “a place for
big boys to play”.
Terry is now considered the father and mentor to a
growing industry that sets high standards of conduct
on private parks across two states.
Brooklyn developed fundraising gymkhanas and driver
training programs for 4WD clubs and has helped develop
management plans for other 4WD parks
Fellow park operators say that their campers are well
educated if they have been to Brooklyn, “Terry
will take no nonsense.”
Terry is not only the best-known personality within
the industry, his ability to appear out of the darkness
at midnight wherever there is trouble has made him a
legend around the campfires.
“I give only two warnings, the first and the
last, both at the same time,” said Terry with
his famous rye smile.
Each year on Australia Day Terry gives an account of
the number of “idiots” he has thrown out
for the New Year.
By the end of January the word has past around the industry
that Terry is in his usual good form and for the rest
of the year he has little trouble.
Legend has it that Terry puts notches in a post for
each person thrown out of the park, his pleasure in
recounting the tally supports this theory.
Enforcing camping etiquette provides safe camping
and now a third generation of return camper make Brooklyn
part of their lives and count Terry and Lorna among
their closest friends.
Terry and Lorna’s contribution to the 4WD industry
received international recognition in 2000 when the
Manager, Senior Design Engineer and a group of executive
staff of Toyota visited Australia and spent a day at
Brooklyn. They were fascinated by a 1976 Toyota Landcruiser
in good working order, a site never seen in Japan.
The manager presented Terry and Lorna with gold embossed
caps the oak-leaf insignia on the visor, caps usually
reserved for company executives.
