Pumpkins
Many
pumpkin varieties flourish in the Upper Clarence. They
require plenty of water and need to be hand weeded on
a regular basis. Growing pumpkins gives cash flow rather
than profit, and the grower gains the health benefit
of hard work and plenty of fresh air. Usually a family
works a pumpkin patch, and it’s a case of many
hands making lighter work of the backbreaking task of
picking and packing many tons of pumpkins.
Local pumpkins picked when they are ripe and had just
a touch of early morning frost are high in flavour and
keep well.
