REGIONAL INNOVATORS

Soy Beans

Soybeans as a summer legume crop with a pod containing high protein seeds were first introduced into this region to improve pasture management and provide additional income for the beef cattle producers.

Some producers are now growing Organic Soy Beans to meet the increasing demands of consumers for use in manufacturing Soymilk, tofu, and other vegetarian foods.

The crop requires good weed and pest control, and is subject to weather variations. Growers are not always guaranteed of a successful year.

Honey

Some of the wild bush honey’s from our rainforests and mountain rangers have warm aromatic flavours. Honey from each small region has its own characteristics and at different times of the year as the native trees come into bloom can be an adventure in sweet delights. Climate variations as well as seasonal factors will influence the outcome in the many privately owned hives and from year to year our beekeepers have offered their regular clients the nectar of paradise.
Some of the honey from the Border Ranges is recognized as among the best-flavoured honey’s of the world.

Vinyards.

The dry crisp winters of the Upper Clarence have helped produce sweet flavoured table grape that is marketed locally. The grapes are a musket style grape with a high juice content and are very popular with local and travellers
The grapes are produced without the use of chemicals and are picked on the morning that they are sole. The vineyard is privately owned and the farmer takes great care to produce a high quality grape
