The weaner based industry remains the focus of production in the region. The Upper Clarence supplies 35,000 weaners to the New England and Southern Downs each year and the prosperity of the industry relies on quality stock coming through from this region.

However with industry improvements as a result of cross breeding programs, and the use of supplementary feeding, increasing numbers of cattle are now “finished”, and sent via road transport to regional abattoirs at Casino, Warwick, Grafton, and Brisbane.

The Casino Regional Livestock Selling Centre, and the Cassino Cooperative Meat Company provide a strong industry focus for the entire North Coast beef industry.
