UCCEDO

Upper Duck Creek

A mammoth task, with a locally trained weed control team commencing at the head of the catchment and working over a two-year period to eradicate major weed infestations along 25km of stream. The weeds are all garden escapees that have been spread by birds, by water and by wind - Madeira Vine, Cats Claw, Moth Vine, Camphor Laurel, Privet, Lemon, and Peach. Using a combination of cut and scrape, stem injection, spraying, and hand pulling techniques, the majority of weeds have been removed. Continual follow up is now required to control new seedlings and monitor natural regeneration.

Community Consultation

UCCL has assisted the community to have input into a range of government initiatives – Healthy Rivers Commission, Regional Vegetation Management Plans, and Catchment Blueprints.

4WD Recreation Park Code of Practice

In recognition of the need to maximise user safety and minimise environmental harm, UCCL worked with the Australian Outdoors Recreational Parks Association to develop a Voluntary Industry Code of Practice. The code sets guidelines for track construction, maintenance and use, weed management, noise abatement, waste management and educational training for park operators.
