Farm Forestry Trials
and Extension
Investigating
different Farm Forestry models as an opportunity for
diversification in the Upper Clarence. The projects
looked at farm planning, and the benefits of mixed hardwood
plantings, tree fodder and understorey pasture species.
Field Days and industry tours were integral to raising
landholder awareness and knowledge.

Land
for Wildlife
UCCL initiated a highly successful
voluntary scheme that encourages landholders to retain
and manage wildlife habitat on their properties. The
scheme in the initial six month trial period exceeded
all expectations, with over 170 properties and more
than 10,000ha being registered. The project now waits
continuing funding as part of the Catchment Board Blueprint. |
Developing
Community Capacity
a priority in UCCL day-to-day business.
Many courses and Field Days have been run to assist
the local community to keep abreast of new information,
and to develop new skills. Initiatives include Soils
Sense and Farming for the Future Workshops; small engine
maintenance, tractor operation, chainsaw operation,
bush regeneration, and weed identification courses.
