“Tickies”, as frontline
workers in the quest to control the cattle tick became
affectionately known, are part of our colourful rural
history.
These men of the bush, often farmers in their own right,
have since the early 1900s assisted graziers to muster
and dip their cattle. Work often necessitated staying
away from the home fires. Tickies camps became a familiar
sight, with some camps being more permanent than others.
The Bonalbo Tickies Camp has been preserved as the last
known permanent camp in this region. Here you can step
back in time, and spend a night in one of the Tickies
huts.
